Anyone with flight booked told of £520 Civil Aviation Authority rule

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) says passengers could be eligible for compensation payments of up to £520 for flight delays this summer when the delay is the airline’s fault. The amount depends on route distance: £220 for flights up to 1,500km, £350 for distances up to 3,500km, and £520 for over 3,500km, with London to New York listed as an example. The CAA notes airlines aren’t required to pay if delays stem from “extraordinary circumstances,” such as certain weather, strikes, terrorism, security risks, civil unrest, or hidden manufacturing defects. The CAA also says compensation isn’t automatic and must be claimed from the airline, with escalation options if responses take too long.
