5X5 Aviation Insurance has appointed Doug Tibbs as managing director as the company prepares for a new phase of growth. Tibbs brings a background as a former professional pilot with more than 6,000 flight hours across 45 aircraft types, and over two decades of leadership in aviation insurance. The company says he most recently oversaw one of North America’s largest general aviation insurance portfolios, managing $200 million in profit-and-loss ownership. In his new role, 5X5 positions its model to emphasize direct engagement between aircraft owners and underwriting teams, aiming for faster decisions and greater transparency than traditional multi-step processes. Tibbs also highlighted how information delays can slow underwriting outcomes. Founder and CEO Troy Kopischke said Tibbs’ experience as underwriter, broker, and pilot aligns with the company’s goal to deliver a simpler, more transparent insurance experience centered on customers.
