Can you get sucked out of an airplane window? Aviation expert reveals who could be at fault in shocking Ryanair incident
A Ryanair flight over Greece turned into a rare window-blowout incident that left a passenger partially pulled from the aircraft shortly after takeoff. The event occurred on FR1879, when debris detached from an engine shattered the window nearest to passenger Ljubisa Karovic’s seat. Investigators are assessing whether an engine failure, a maintenance issue, or a manufacturing defect contributed to midair decompression. Karovic, 61, was reportedly seated in window seat 11F, traveling with his wife Svetlana Maksimović; she described emergency chaos as the cabin lost pressure and oxygen masks came loose. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, was able to conduct an emergency landing in Thessaloniki. Reports say Karovic suffered severe burns and was hospitalized after fainting multiple times. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating following Greek authorities’ request for U.S. assistance.
