United Airlines Flights Delayed Nationwide As Tech Outage Hits Check-In And Boarding
United Airlines flights were delayed nationwide as a technology outage disrupted check-in and boarding systems across the United States. The issue affected operations from New York to Los Angeles and was reported starting at 7:40 AM, with more than 430 reports logged by 8:23 AM on Down Detector. Major airports included Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). United said the systems were “slowly returning to full functionality,” but warned some flights and passengers could still be impacted due to backlog processing. The carrier’s reservation system—part of its Unimatic platform—was also affected, preventing check-in and the printing of customer tickets, which then disrupted bag drop and boarding. Contact center services were affected as well, leading to longer delays for passengers seeking changes.
