Cargo jet tried to abort unsteady landing before Miami crash, flight data indicates

Flight data released Tuesday suggest that an Amazon cargo jet attempted to abort an unstable landing at Miami International Airport before overrunning the runway, smashing into a van and killing five people inside. The NTSB said it will interview the pilot and co-pilot on Wednesday as investigators determine why the aircraft went past the runway during Sunday’s crash. NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy said the data and cockpit recordings indicate the crew briefly tried a go-around, then abandoned it and attempted to stop the plane, but thrust reversers were never used. Investigators want to learn why controllers didn’t change the approach. The pilot and co-pilot were released from hospital; two remain in critical condition and one is stable.
