Chile Expels 56 More on Tenth Flight, 1,874 This Year
Chile carried out its 10th expulsion flight since President José Antonio Kast took office in March, removing 56 foreigners from Santiago on Saturday, Oct. 10. The government says the charter flight brings total expulsions in 2026 to 1,874—roughly 200 per month. Interior Undersecretary Máximo Pavez and National Migration Service director Frank Sauerbaum outlined the figures during a press conference, with Prefect Inspector Ernesto León from the PDI also attending. The expulsion group of 56 included 21 Colombians, 20 Bolivians and 15 Ecuadorians; 45 were ordered administratively and 11 by court ruling. Most had entered Chile via an unauthorised border crossing (31). Others were linked to robbery with intimidation (six) and drugs law (five), plus receiving stolen vehicles and violent robbery. Officials cited one Colombian wanted for aggravated theft. Pavez said flight frequency is about three times higher than the monthly average under the previous government. Separate figures show 10,345 foreigners left voluntarily between Jan. 3 and Oct. 4.
