Dead after 2 helicopters crash near Oregon airport
Three people died after two helicopters crashed near McMinnville Airport, about 35 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon, the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that a Robinson R22, with one pilot aboard, and an Airbus H125, carrying two people, crashed after coming down mid-air. Emergency crews responded around 2:15 p.m. near a highway intersection a few miles east of McMinnville Airport. The lone occupant of the Airbus was 38-year-old Tyler Sturdevant of Newberg, Oregon. The Robinson R22 occupants were flight instructor Maddie Aasbo, 22, from Texas, and a student pilot from the United Kingdom; authorities said the student’s identity would not be released until next-of-kin notification. The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation.
