Democratic lawmakers urge FAA not to drop rule requiring epinephrine on all flights

A group of Democratic lawmakers urged the FAA not to relax a rule requiring U.S. airlines to keep epinephrine on board for medical emergencies. In a letter, Senators Tammy Duckworth, Chuck Schumer and Tammy Baldwin, along with more than a dozen other lawmakers, argued that multiple doses on every aircraft—in forms that can be self-administered without medical training—are “more urgent than ever.” The FAA, in an August proposal, sought to give airlines flexibility on emergency medical kit requirements by dropping a medical-item checklist and shifting to performance-based standards. Those standards would require carriers to be able to address nine life-threatening conditions. The FAA did not respond in the article.
