Dolphins releases ex-Cowboys 1st-round pick from practice squad

The Miami Dolphins released former Dallas Cowboys first-round pick Mazi Smith from their practice squad on Tuesday, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. The move comes as Miami continues its search for its first win of the season after starting 0-5, making the team part of an unfortunate 28-year NFL history. Smith had joined the Dolphins after being traded from Dallas to the New York Jets last season and then landing on Miami’s practice squad for another chance. Drafted No. 26 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Smith totaled 43 games, 57 tackles, six quarterback hits, and two sacks across three franchises.
