Pilots of American Airlines Boeing 737 reported a near miss with a drone climbing out of Chicago

American Airlines flight AA1936 nearly collided with an unauthorized drone shortly after departing Chicago O’Hare on Saturday, October 10. The Boeing 737-800 (registered N893NN) was more than four hours behind schedule when it took off from Runway 22L around 5:30 p.m. CDT, bound for Newark Liberty International Airport. Pilots reported completing a standard departure procedure, climbing through about 7,000 feet near the Lake Michigan shoreline. During the climb, the crew spotted a UAV estimated to have passed within 100 to 200 feet of the airliner. No evasive maneuvers were required, and the aircraft landed safely about 90 minutes later.
