Dyson Won't Say What's Wrong With Its CameraJet Toothbrush

Dyson’s $499 CameraJet electric toothbrush has effectively vanished from shelves just weeks after its high-profile launch, amid reports of failures shortly after use. The toothbrush uses a “Gap Optical Targeting system” trained on 470,000 dental images to aim rinse streams at tooth gaps, and holds 12.5 milliliters of mouth rinse in an onboard reservoir. Launched in U.S. stores on September 8, it drew complaints a day later about water entering the battery compartment and unit failures within 30 seconds. Consumer Reports’ review unit stopped working in less than 24 hours. Dyson says there’s no recall, blaming a “single component issue” in limited early batches.
