Engines: Major Airline Signs Huge Deal To Power Its Boeing 737 MAX Fleet
Turkish Airlines, Turkish Technic and CFM International have signed a memorandum of understanding for CFM LEAP 1-B engines, covering at least 300 engines. The engines are intended to power Turkish Airlines’ 100 firm Boeing 737 MAX orders plus 50 additional options on its order sheet, and the total scope of the deal could exceed 600 engines across Turkish Airlines and AJet, its subsidiary. In addition to the engines that come with the aircraft, the agreement includes parts and spares, as well as previously ordered and delivered engines. The MoU also covers material services supporting a new MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) facility in Turkey. The parties met in Istanbul with Turkish Airlines chairman Prof. Murat Şeker, Turkish Technic CEO Mikail Akbulut and Safran CEO Olivier Andriès. Turkish Airlines already operates CFM56-powered 737 Next Generation jets and has LEAP-1B engines in its fleet on 737 MAX aircraft delivered from December 2018.
