Fighter jet crash sparks small fire at MCAS Miramar
xCruzo Brief
A fighter jet crash at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on Friday morning sparked a small fire on the base, according to officials. The F-35B assigned to 3rd Marine Aircraft Group 11 went down at about 10 a.m., and Marine spokesperson Capt. Steven Keenan characterized it as a “Class A mishap.” The pilot, the only person aboard, ejected and was recovered; it was not immediately clear whether the pilot was injured. SkyRanger 7 footage showed the aircraft in multiple pieces over scorched ground roughly the size of a football field, which fire crews later doused with water streams. The cause was under investigation.
