First responders compete in 42nd annual Georgia Police & Fire Games

First responders compete in the 42nd annual Georgia Police & Fire Games in Cherokee County, running June 8-13 and featuring events from powerlifting to bass fishing and cornhole. Canton Police Sgt. Mary Turner took part in the weightlifting events, while Columbus Police Sgt. Garrett Williams—holding the world record for a 650-pound bench—also competed, noting his personal bests in the back squat. Competitors emphasized camaraderie over rivalry, describing the Games as a chance to connect outside of tense duty and support fellow public servants through competition and fellowship.
