Putah Fire in California's Yolo County grows to 300 acres

A prescribed brush fire in California’s Yolo County near Winters rapidly escalated to 362 acres as of 4 p.m., after starting at 11:34 a.m. Monday. The Putah Fire grew from 25 acres along Highway 128 to 120 acres by 1:38 p.m., then reached 300 acres by 2 p.m. Firefighters, aided by 10 engines, three bulldozers, six helicopters, and air tanker drops, worked to slow the blaze, with roughly 200 personnel on scene. The incident began as a planned burn at Putah Creek Fishing Access Site but escaped containment due to wind. Cal Fire closed westbound Highway 128 and Winters lies about seven miles away.
