Flight 93 Memorial ceremonies today mark 25 years since 9/11 attacks

Ceremonies at the Flight 93 Memorial near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Nearly 3,000 people died when coordinated terrorists struck New York’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and United Airlines Flight 93 was headed for Washington, D.C.’s Capitol. Instead, passengers and crew fought back, and the plane crashed into an empty field in Somerset County. Events began around 8:30 a.m. near the Wall of Names, with a second ceremony scheduled 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., featuring remarks by Gov. Josh Shapiro and a wreath-laying. Saturday evening will include 40 candle lanterns.
