Flight attendants employed by Alaska Airlines to take strike-authorization vote

Flight attendants employed by Horizon Air, a subsidiary of Alaska Air Group, rallied at Portland International Airport. They are demanding a living-wage contract and plan to announce strike-authorization results during the event. The demonstration begins at 11:30 a.m. and is expected to run until 1 p.m.

Alaska Air said the vote is a common negotiation step and would not necessarily trigger a strike. A strike would require a lengthy process under the Railway Labor Act, including federally mandated mediation. The airline emphasized its history of agreements with unions and said talks with the AFA are ongoing.
