Flight of the Dockers: Extra Qantas services deployed as purple army sets sights on Sydney
Qantas is adding capacity for Western Australian Fremantle fans heading to Friday’s AFL preliminary final against Sydney at the SCG, after the club’s epic win over Geelong. The airline has added more than 500 seats, and it has already added almost 8,000 seats across more than 30 Qantas and Jetstar flights to move supporters to and from Melbourne for the finals series, plus an extra Brisbane–Melbourne flight for Saturday’s match. Qantas also increased services to help fans attend the preliminary final. The game starts at 7:40pm AEST. Qantas said demand surged, adding an extra Perth–Sydney service on Friday morning; Boeing 737 flight QF656 departs Perth at 8:15am and arrives Sydney at 2:20pm. One-way fares start at $629 (reported Saturday morning). Tickets sold out within 45 minutes of release.
