Gatwick airport apologises after water shortage hits toilets

Gatwick Airport said it is apologising after a power outage at a local water treatment works left parts of both terminals without running water on Sunday, during peak summer travel. The airport distributed bottled water to passengers and staff as water fountains, toilets and handwashing facilities stopped working, and many bars and restaurants were forced to close. Gatwick’s operator said outages were caused by a power cut at the Bough Beech treatment works, owned by SES Water. SES first warned of problems around 7am, with repairs completed by mid-afternoon, though water still required treatment before normal supply returned. Some toilets remained operational, and Gatwick said some passengers experienced temporary low water pressure.
