Heathrow expansion 'cannot be considered in isolation', transport body says

Britain’s Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (Cilt UK) said Heathrow expansion “cannot be considered in isolation” as the aviation market changes. In its response to the draft Heathrow Expansion National Policy Statement (HENPS) consultation, the group argued the government should set out a “clear, co-ordinated” airports strategy. It pointed to rising passenger numbers alongside stable aircraft movements, driven by larger aircraft and higher load factors. Cilt UK supports growth in air transport, but warned Heathrow’s plans must match how the market has evolved since the early 2010s, including affordability for passengers facing additional charges. The body also questioned who bears the cost and risk of expansion.
