How Much Do British Airways Pilots Make Compared To Emirates Pilots?
British Airways and Emirates both publish pilot pay figures, but the headline numbers can hide how much cash pilots actually take home. The key difference is structure: British Airways uses a UK-based salary model with basic pay, flying pay and time-away-from-base payments, while Emirates presents a tax-free package that splits take-home cash from items like housing, education, medical coverage, travel benefits and pension contributions. Using Pilot Jobs Network’s mainline pay scale effective August 2025, BA first-year short-haul First Officers start at £72,738 (about $97,000) and long-haul Captains at the 20-year point reach £165,965 ($221,000). Emirates advertises AED 385,000 take-home for standard First Officers and AED 575,000 for direct-entry Captains, with enhanced FO pay available. BA figures are pre-UK tax, and the published BA scale is noted as out of date for current starting earnings.
