How the Iranian delegation flew to New York for the UN General Assembly

An Iranian delegation arrived in the United States to attend the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly via a long-haul, multi-leg transatlantic flight. It departed Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport (THR) on September 22 at 8:15 AM IRST (04:45 UTC) aboard a 34-year-old Airbus A340-311, registration EP-IGI. After climbing to about 38,000 feet over Turkey, the route received permissions over Greece and then Italy before crossing the Mediterranean. The aircraft made a planned technical stop at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers, arriving 11:45 AM CET (10:45 UTC). After a two-hour layover, it continued to JFK in New York, landing safely on Runway 04R at 6:15 PM EDT (22:15 UTC). For event logistics, the aircraft was repositioned shortly afterward to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and will stay parked during the assembly.
