ICE detains a Southwest Airlines flight attendant at work, according to the report, after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took him into custody during a duty flight. Lorenzo Thompson, a Jamaican national, was detained on July 14 at Nashville International Airport and remains in ICE custody while immigration proceedings continue. The Department of Homeland Security said Thompson entered the United States on April 17, 2021, on a visa set to expire on Oct. 16, 2021, and overstayed without departing. Supporters say the details of his detention location and timeline for proceedings are still unclear, and Southwest Airlines did not respond to requests for comment. TWU Local 556, which represents more than 21,000 Southwest flight attendants, called for dignity, respect, transparency, and due process, and said it is providing legal counsel. Labor and community groups, including the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA), are also involved, while friends created a GoFundMe for legal fees.
