India eyes 200 Russian jets to boost regional connectivity: United Aircraft Corporation

India aims to become a regional aviation hub by courting up to 200 Russian‑made aircraft, according to chief statements by United Aircraft Corporation ahead of SPIEF. Vadim Badekha told TASS that Indian carriers have shown strong demand for the SJ‑100 regional jet and the Il‑114‑300 turboprop, with talks to acquire 100–200 aircraft. The interest follows Wings India participation where both jets were showcased, and Indian airlines reiterated demand for both models. A licensed production arrangement for the SJ‑100 in India with HAL is being discussed as part of the broader collaboration.

Badekha estimated that production of the Superjet in India could begin within three years, at a rate of 20–40 units annually described as a solid pace. He also noted the Il‑114‑300 should be localized domestically, with Flamingo Aerospace reportedly contracted to supply six aircraft. SPIEF runs June 3–6, focusing on pragmatic dialogue and stable futures. Russian president Vladimir Putin said Moscow remains ready to cooperate with India on the Su‑57 fifth‑generation fighter program, highlighting broader defense and aerospace collaboration. Taken together, the discussions position India as a key regional market for Russian aviation exports.
