Indonesia's Pertamina, Boeing sign MoU on sustainable aviation fuel development
Pertamina, the state energy firm of Indonesia, said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing to explore development opportunities for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the country. The agreement, announced in a statement late on Wednesday, is intended to support Indonesia’s efforts to decarbonize aviation and move toward net-zero emissions. The partners plan to examine potential feedstock sources, develop SAF technologies, and support the development of SAF policy. Pertamina’s CEO, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, said the collaboration could accelerate a competitive SAF industry and create more economic value for Indonesia. Boeing Indonesia Managing Director Indra Duivenvoorde said Indonesia has the potential to lead regionally in SAF and cited projections of roughly 7% annual passenger traffic growth in Southeast Asia through 2044, creating demand for nearly 4,900 new aircraft.
