JetBlue pilot reports drone strike during JFK landing

A JetBlue Airways pilot reported that his aircraft struck a drone during landing operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday morning, based on air traffic control audio. The pilot told an air traffic controller that the collision occurred “right above the cockpit,” describing the event at roughly 3,000 feet. The Federal Aviation Administration said the incident took place at about 7:15 a.m. local time and added that a post-flight inspection did not reveal any damage to the aircraft. The pilot informed air traffic control that he did not need assistance and continued to the runway. A similar report came on Friday when a United Airlines crew saw a drone while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport, at around 5:20 p.m. local time. The events follow actions in the U.S. where authorities seized hundreds of drones near venues hosting World Cup matches, including MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, though it remains unclear whether the cases are connected. It also cited an April FAA probe involving alleged drone flights near Coors Field during Rockies games.
