JetBlue plane collides with drone while landing in New York
A JetBlue aircraft was reported to have collided with a drone while attempting to land at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York this weekend, prompting an FAA investigation. JetBlue said the flight landed without incident, passengers disembarked normally, and the plane was removed from service for a post-flight inspection that found no damage or evidence of a collision. The report described the incident as part of a close sequence of drone-related near misses at major airports. Days earlier at Newark Airport in New Jersey, the FAA said a Boeing 737 carrying 106 passengers and five crew members nearly hit a drone when it flew over the device about 100 feet below the aircraft, according to a pilot call to air traffic control. The FAA said more than 100 drone sightings near airports are reported monthly. The story also reiterates that unauthorized drone operations in controlled airspace are illegal in the US and carry potential jail time.
