Kyrgyzstan Scrambles for Backup Fuel Supplies as Russian Shortage Bites
Kyrgyzstan scrambles for backup fuel supplies as Russian shortage bites reflects growing concern over supply resilience as Russia struggles with fuel shortages. Kyrgyzstan imports more than 90% of its gasoline from Russia and says its Energy Ministry has asked neighboring states, as well as Russia, for help. Authorities said current stockpiles are sufficient, but they warned the Russian crisis could soon affect Central Asia. In a statement carried by Reuters, the ministry said requests were sent to Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. The pressure in Russia has been linked to Ukrainian drone attacks on refineries and fuel routes, with Moscow’s Kapotnya refinery knocked offline last month. Reuters reports the refinery is unlikely to resume before 2027, and Russia has reportedly begun importing fuel from India to ease the crunch.
