Lee, BNA seek to rename Nashville airport after Dolly Parton

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and the Metro Nashville Airport Authority announced they plan to rename Nashville International Airport, known as BNA, after singer Dolly Parton. Lee said his office spoke with Parton’s team about the proposal on Aug. 28, and the team expressed appreciation and openness to continuing discussions. Earlier that day, a plane towing a banner supporting the renaming buzzed over the Tennessee State Capitol shortly after 8 a.m., paid for by Change.org. Petition organizer Dan Dion said the goal is to honor Parton’s legacy, with travelers symbolically “flying into Parton Airport.” The airport authority will address current policy restrictions at its Sept. 17 meeting.
