Leipzig airport suspends flights over suspicious object

Leipzig/Halle Airport in eastern Germany suspended flights overnight after police spotted an unidentified flying object and found a suspicious item, according to authorities on Wednesday. Several aircraft, including a passenger plane, were diverted during what police called a “security-related incident.” Operations resumed early in the morning in the northern part of the airport, while the southern runway stayed closed as investigators continued. The suspicious item was discovered near the southern runway and was assessed by police using a bomb disposal robot. Investigators are determining whether the unknown object and the suspicious item are connected, and police said there was no immediate danger.
