Lockheed Martin Unveils Next-Gen PAC-3 Edge Missile
Lockheed Martin unveiled a full-scale model of the next-generation PAC-3 Edge, a surface-to-air interceptor designed to counter hypersonic and advanced missile threats. The company debuted the missile on Monday at the Association of the U.S. Army conference in Washington, D.C., with development led by its Missiles and Fire Control unit in Grand Prairie. Lockheed said PAC-3 Edge can fly farther and engage more capable targets than today’s PAC-3. Based on hit-to-kill technology, it uses a multi-pulse solid rocket motor from Northrop Grumman featuring a third pulse that fires three times during flight for added agility. Lockheed plans to begin testing in 2027 and deploy by 2031. The program is part of the Army’s Future Interceptor effort to replace current Patriot-system interceptors.
