Major European airport to shut for one month - Ryanair and easyJet flights affected
Naples Capodichino Airport will shut for a month in November 2026 to carry out extensive runway and terminal upgrades aimed at boosting passenger capacity. Naples is one of Italy’s busiest hubs, handling about 13 million travellers annually, with expectations rising to 17.3 million by 2035. During the closure, major airlines will be forced to ground services, affecting carriers including easyJet from London Gatwick and Ryanair from London Stansted, as well as flights to and from Manchester and Edinburgh. The works include runway refurbishment, a second non-Schengen terminal (including UK routes), new stands, logistics cargo areas, a new hotel, and redevelopments around the airport. The airport is scheduled to reopen on November 30, with travellers directed to Salerno-Pontecagnano Airport. GESAC will run an eight-times-daily shuttle costing €12 (£10.04) and there’s also a train from Naples Central to Salerno for £5 each way.
