Major UK airline to cut flights to 3 destinations this month
A major UK airline is cutting flights to three destinations this month due to financial pressure, with Loganair reducing service levels across parts of Scotland and northern routes. The airline says it can no longer maintain its current frequency “without impacting the wider business,” citing higher fuel prices alongside increases in aircraft repair costs, airport fees, and route charges. From July 19, Loganair will reduce flights between Inverness and Stornoway, Orkney, and Shetland, where current daily connections to Orkney (Kirkwall) and Shetland (Sumburgh) will shift to operate only on Saturdays and Sundays. Service frequency to Stornoway will also change. Chief executive Luke Farajallah told the BBC that routes are important for communities, but long-term sustainability is required. He added that if more funding is secured, full services could resume in October, and that Hial has offered support while warning it must be affordable. The cuts follow 2026 flight reductions by other carriers.
