Major UK airline to cut flights to 3 destinations this month
Loganair, a major UK airline, will cut flights to three destinations later this month as it faces financial pressures. The carrier connects the UK and France, including services to Paris, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London. However, it says it can no longer sustain its current service level “without impacting the wider business.” Loganair will reduce flights between Inverness and Stornoway, Orkney and Shetland starting July 19. At present, there are daily flights from Inverness to Orkney (Kirkwall) and Shetland (Sumburgh), plus a regular service to Stornoway. From July, flights between these destinations will operate only on Saturdays and Sundays. CEO Luke Farajallah told the BBC the move is driven by increased fuel prices and higher aircraft repair costs, airport fees and route charges. Hial, owned by the Scottish government, has offered support, but said it must be affordable. He added that full services could return in October with more funding, as British Airways, Ryanair and Aer Lingus also cut capacity in 2026.
