Man sentenced to life for shooting, killing 15-year-old in Covington
A man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty in the 2023 killing of a 15-year-old in Covington, Georgia. Dameko Boswell entered guilty pleas to multiple charges, including malice murder and felony murder, as well as theft by receiving stolen property and three counts of aggravated assault, according to the Alcovy Judicial Circuit covering Newton and Walton counties. Prosecutors said that on July 31, 2023, Larry Simmons was walking with two other boys near Nixon Circle and Johnson Drive around 1 a.m. Boswell, then 16, allegedly fired from behind and struck Simmons in the back three times, with surveillance cameras capturing the shooting. Covington police heard the gunshots while canvassing for another incident and located Boswell after he hid a stolen gun at a family member’s apartment. DNA testing matched Boswell’s to the weapon.
