Manitoba flight school makes safety changes after mid-air crash killed 2: report
Canada’s Transportation Safety Board says a Manitoba pilot training school has introduced several safety changes after two student pilots died in a mid-air collision during training last year. The students were practising takeoffs and landings at a facility in Steinbach when they attempted to land simultaneously on a small rural runway. The wreckage from two single-engine planes was later found in a field about 400 metres from the runway on private property. The safety board reports Harv’s Air has limited the number of aircraft allowed to participate in an exercise at the same time, required pilots to disclose locations during radio calls, and upgraded lighting systems to help reduce mid-air collisions. The agency conducted a limited investigation and did not issue recommendations.
