Massive Expansion: American Airlines Launches 9 New Routes From Dallas This Summer [Map]
American Airlines will expand its Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) network this summer with nine new routes, including multiple international additions, according to schedule data cited from Cirium. Three of the new links are domestic, while six target overseas markets, using DFW’s hub role to drive both point-to-point travel and connecting traffic via the airline and regional partners. In Europe, American will add Zurich, returning to the route after last serving it in 2007, and Athens, a destination with no prior DFW service from the airline. Both are scheduled daily from May 21, with Zurich running until August 3 using the Boeing 777-200ER and Athens operating May 21 to September 7 with 777-200ER and 777-300ER aircraft. The carrier also adds long-haul DFW flights to South America, bringing Buenos Aires (EZE) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG) back onto the summer roster. The article notes Rio has typically been served only in winter, with a 12-year gap for Q3 service from DFW, aside from a September Boeing 787-8 rotation.
