More F-35 fighter jets arrive in Finland
Two Finnish Air Force F-35A Lightning II jets—JF-509 and JF-511—arrived in Finland on Friday evening, the service said in a press release. The aircraft landed at the Lapland Air Wing in Rovaniemi at 5:56 p.m. local time. With this second delivery, four F-35s have now reached Finland. The JF-511 tail’s outer vertical stabilizer surfaces carry the Bison emblem, the squadron insignia of Fighter Squadron 11. JF-509 departed Lockheed Martin’s Fort Worth, Texas facility on Oct. 20 and made an intermediate stop at Lajes Air Base in the Azores, where JF-511 joined the ferry detachment. JF-511 had stayed in the Azores in September due to a minor avionics fault. After arrival, both jets will undergo inspections and airworthiness/acceptance checks before pilot training.
