Multiple injured after floatplane makes emergency landing, catches fire off Washington coast

A Kenmore Air floatplane emergency landing off the Washington coast left multiple people injured after the seaplane caught fire, according to authorities. The FAA and local officials said the DHC-3 Otter went down in North Beach Shallow Bay near Sucia Island, following a report at about 5:25 p.m. local time. All 10 passengers and the pilot were accounted for. The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said injuries ranged from head trauma to broken bones and lacerations, and that four passengers were taken to local hospitals; one person was listed as in critical condition, with no immediate fatalities reported. Kenmore Air said it was coordinating with investigators and that the aircraft was operating near Sucia Island. The flight departed Lake Union and was headed to Roche Harbor Marina on San Juan Island, described by the airline as a routine route. Multiple agencies deployed boats and emergency personnel, and three air ambulance helicopters transported injured passengers.
