Other Choice: United Airlines Drops 11 Routes From Chicago O'Hare Due To FAA Flight Caps

United Airlines is adjusting its network out of Chicago O’Hare after FAA-imposed flight-cap limits, dropping 11 routes due to capacity restrictions at ORD. The FAA’s order caps operations at 2,700 landings and takeoffs per day, initially cutting about 10% of daily flights after it was announced in April, with the aim of reducing delayed flights. On July 10, the FAA extended the cap’s end date by one year, moving expiration from October 2026 to October 2027. United will delay the start of 10 new Regional Midwest services and one additional route to Guadalajara, Mexico, while O’Hare infrastructure work under the ORD 21 modernization program continues through summer 2027. United’s summer schedule is still 11% higher than last year, and it expects 13% more passengers despite the limits, as the airline “upgauges” to larger aircraft.
