Navy suspends search for sailor who went missing when helicopter went down in Arabian Sea
The U.S. Navy suspended the search for a sailor missing after an MH-60S helicopter went down in the Arabian Sea, after an extensive rescue effort. The sailor’s name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, and officials said there is no indication the emergency water landing was caused by hostile action. The Navy reported that the active search concluded early Sunday and was suspended at 8 a.m. ET (3 p.m. Arabian Standard Time). The search had lasted more than 102 hours across over 14,000 square miles, involving U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force assets in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. The sailor was assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 5 and was embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush. Officials said three of the helicopter’s four crew members were recovered and were in stable condition aboard the carrier, while the incident remains under investigation. Additional assets included P-8 Poseidon squadrons and multiple destroyers supporting the operation.
