Never forget' - Florida Weekly
xCruzo Brief
A retired firefighter, Christopher Spencer, bought JetBlue tickets for himself and his three sons for a Sept. 12, 2001 trip to New York City to reunite with his former crew. After the attacks of Sept. 11, the reunion never happened; Spencer used the tickets instead to attend the funerals of colleagues who were killed. Twenty-five years later, he remains dedicated to keeping their memory alive through the Freedom Memorial Foundation of Naples. The memorial includes a granite American flag monument measuring 13 feet by 40 feet, benches honoring the three 9/11 attack sites, and a Pentagon-shaped walkway with memorial bricks. A ceremony is held each Sept. 11, including a bell toll.
