New Airbus cargo jet completes maiden flight with Broughton built wings

Airbus has taken a major step in developing its new A350F freighter after the first prototype completed its maiden flight from Toulouse on Tuesday, September 29. The aircraft flew for four hours and 10 minutes, climbing to 25,000 ft while test pilots evaluated airworthiness, handling characteristics and onboard systems. Airbus expects the flight-test programme to run for more than nine months, paving the way for certification and entry into service. The A350F programme also has North Wales ties: wings were built at Airbus’ Broughton plant in Flintshire. Airbus says the aircraft can carry up to 111 tonnes over up to 8,700 km and cut fuel and emissions by up to 40%.
