New details emerge after deadly B-52 fireball crash kills eight
Eight people were killed when a B-52 Stratofortress crashed after takeoff on a test flight at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The bomber, participating in a radar modernization program, slammed into the ground about halfway down the 15,000-foot runway shortly after becoming airborne. Aerial footage showed the wreckage largely destroyed, with investigators noting an abrupt dive. The base closed the airfield for safety and recovery operations, with officials saying it could take up to six months to complete the investigation. Victims include government contractors, Boeing employees, and uniformed military personnel, though names were not released. Edwards AFB hosts ongoing testing of all Air Force aircraft, including planned upgrades to the B-52 fleet.
