New rule for Ryanair, Easyjet, Wizz Air but BA and Jet2 flights not affected

European lawmakers unveiled a new rule affecting Ryanair, EasyJet, and Wizz Air flights, while British Airways and Jet2 appear unaffected. The changes require airlines to allow two pieces of cabin baggage on board without additional charges and to display the fare inclusive of carry-on luggage at the outset of the booking process. The reform aims to standardize baggage policies across the European Union, but industry observers note that some larger carriers are not covered by the measure. Airlines for Europe (A4E) branded the rules a missed opportunity for balanced reform, arguing the change does not address reliability or delays. Travel expert Simon Calder estimated the reform could add about £20-£40 to one-way fares on the affected low-cost carriers. Willie Walsh, director-general of the IATA, said the package will not reduce delays and will create operational challenges and higher costs for passengers. Air France and KLM are unaffected because both already allow two cabin items. The European Commission maintains the transparency aim, though critics question the policy's impact on consumer behavior.
