Poland enters fifth-generation era as first F-35A jets arrive at Łask
Poland has taken delivery of its first three F-35A Lightning II combat aircraft, initiating the nation’s transition to fifth-generation air power. The jets arrived at the 32nd Tactical Air Base in Łask on May 22, 2026, as part of a 32-jet order signed in January 2020 between the United States and Poland. The delivery marks Poland’s entry into fifth-generation capability, with the aircraft bearing the Husarz designation in reference to the historic Hussars winged cavalry. Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz described the milestone as a significant advancement for Poland’s Armed Forces and its NATO affiliations. Production began in 2023, and the first Polish F-35A Husarz was unveiled in August 2024 at Lockheed Martin’s Fort Worth facility.
The F-35A Lightning II, built by Lockheed Martin, is designed for both air-to-ground and air-to-air missions. The jet already serves multiple U.S. services and NATO partners, underscoring its role in allied interoperability. NATO’s command noted that Poland’s entry represents a major step forward in air power and alliance readiness. Earlier this year, Lockheed Martin reported a record delivery year, signaling strong demand for the aircraft globally.
