Pilot arrested after flying aircraft 'extremely low,' scaring S.C. beachgoers

Georgetown County, S.C. — A man was arrested after authorities said he flew an aircraft at an extremely low altitude over Pawleys Island, frightening beachgoers. William Roger Williamson III, 50, of Florence, was charged with aggravated breach of peace following an April 10 incident that prompted multiple 911 calls. The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office identified the aircraft and referred the case to the South Carolina Flight Standards District Office, which completed the investigation. Williamson surrendered to the Georgetown County Detention Center on Tuesday morning, and officials described the episode as a 'flight of terror' that led to a subsequent 'walk of shame.'
