NTSB Investigates Close Call Between Delta and American Airlines Jets at Boston Airport
The U.S. NTSB has opened an investigation into a runway close call involving aircraft operated by Delta Air Lines and American Airlines at Boston Logan International Airport. The regulator said it launched the probe after the two jets came into close proximity during operations on June 21. Authorities reported that a Delta Airbus A319 was on approach to land when the crew initiated a go-around, while a Boeing 737-800 from American Airlines was departing from an intersecting runway at the same time. Air traffic controllers instructed the Delta aircraft to discontinue its landing approach as a precaution. Both aircraft continued safely and there were no reported injuries. The FAA is also reviewing the event under standard safety procedures. The incident has added to scrutiny of runway and air traffic close calls, with regulators and lawmakers discussing ways to reduce operational risk and strengthen oversight. Investigators will review flight data, communications and procedures to determine what occurred and whether any recommendations are needed.
