'open' to Germany joining next generation fighter jet programme, says Burnham
xCruzo Brief
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham says Britain is “open” to Germany joining the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), a coalition building the next generation of fighter jets. During his first visit to Berlin, Burnham told German Chancellor Friedrich Merz that he had indicated UK openness to Germany becoming part of the GCAP effort. GCAP began as a pact between the UK, Italy and Japan for a sixth-generation jet, informally dubbed “Tempest,” featuring technologies such as AI and next-generation sensors. Burnham also discussed security ties to counter hybrid threats and ratified the UK-German Kensington Treaty.
