Outrage as Trump turns Greenland into giant US aircraft carrier in 'deranged' post

President Donald Trump triggered widespread backlash after posting an image on Truth Social showing Greenland transformed into a sprawling U.S. air base—its entire surface covered with runways, hangars, and rows of military jets. The graphic included a large U.S. flag and the words “WELCOME TO GREENLAND.” The post comes as Trump continues to press for American control of Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, despite repeated objections from leaders in Nuuk and Copenhagen. Independent journalist Aaron Rupar and activist Orla Joelsen criticized the image as depicting Greenland as a “giant American military colony.” Critics cited plans for U.S. facilities and upgrades at Pituffik Space Base, plus a Denmark-U.S. agreement recognizing Greenland’s right to self-determination.
